Playing a Katana the original of which belongs to Marto's private collection goes back to the so-called Edo period ranging from 1603 with the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate in 1868, the year of the Meiji Restoration.

The Edo period is characterized as a long period of peace and the consequent decline of the figure of the samurai ends up as a courtier without special skills warriors.

The stylistic evolution of weapons produced in these two centuries and more reflect this situation, the proposal is in fact here katana scabbard and handle made of ivory carved with scenes of life (made of resin in reproduction) that indicate the ceremonial function rather than warlike.
